Flip the Script: Instant Reverse & Step Volume Control

Twist reality with the intuitive reverse patch, reversing each sample layer on the fly to uncover unexpected sonic textures. Sculpt rhythmic pulses and evolving dynamics with the per-layer step volume, adding intricate motion to your four-layered sound designs.

To fully leverage the inherent depth and complexity of these atmospheric sounds, they are designed to be played one note at a time. This approach unlocks the rich chordal textures embedded within each sample, providing a powerful and evocative foundation for your compositions with singular sonic gestures.

What is the Micron Series?

3 Types of Micron Libraries

XY Type

4-layer instrument with XY pad. XY Atmos crafts evolving atmospheres, XY Playable offers melodic/chordal performance. XY Loops provides rhythmic sequencing.

Ferrago

Unleash your creativity by mixing and mashing up musical phrases and drum loops. Create truly unique and modern productions with this innovative loop manipulation tool.

Drums Type

Powerful drum loops with extensive sound editing features. Trigger loops in diverse ways to create endless pattern combinations and dynamic rhythmic variations.

Lost In Guitarspace is an XY Library - 3 Types of XY Libraries

XY Atmos

The XY Atmos libraries, exemplified are primarily designed for creating immersive and evolving atmospheres.

  • Best Use: These libraries are ideal for visual storytelling, such as film scores, documentaries, and videos, due to their long, evolving sound sources.
They excel at generating lush pads, cinematic soundscapes, and ambient textures.
  • The sounds are generally designed to be very long and have a strong sense of internal movement and evolution, making them perfect for setting a mood or atmosphere in film, documentaries, video games, or even purely ambient music.
  • Chordal Content: Many sound sources in this category include inherent major or minor chordal content, making it generally advisable to play single notes. However, some patches are exceptions and allow for chord playing.
  • Dynamic Response: Patches can be designed to respond to playing velocity, allowing for a dynamic shift between major and minor moods (e.g., softer velocity for minor, harder for major).
  • Unique Effect: The “Special” knob in XY Atmos libraries typically controls a modulation effect.

XY Playable

The XY Playable libraries are designed for more conventional musical performance, allowing users to play chords or melodies.

  • Best Use: These libraries are ideal for visual storytelling, such as film scores, documentaries, and videos, but also ambient and electronic music.
  • Chordal Capability: These libraries are built to handle chords effectively.
  • Layer Range Definition: A key distinguishing feature is the ability to define the keyboard range for each individual layer. This is useful for creating keyboard splits or ensuring specific sound sources (e.g., bass) don’t overpower certain frequency ranges. Layers can also be set to progressively fade out across their defined range.
  • Poly/Mono Button: Some XY Playable libraries include a “Poly/Mono” button, allowing specific layers, especially those with “soloist” sound sources, to be played monophonically.
  • Arpeggiator: Some XY Playable libraries, particularly those with sharp-attack sound sources, feature a built-in arpeggiator with various modes (hold, hold plus, MIDI through) and velocity control options.

XY Loops

The XY Loops libraries are distinct in their focus on rhythmic and melodic loops, offering advanced sequencing and manipulation capabilities.

  • Best Use: These libraries come in several themes which span from cinematic to pop/experimental music
  • Loop-Based: These libraries are built around rhythmic and melodic loops.
  • Sequencer: which provides 16 steps per layer to switch loop playback on or off.
    • Division Control: The length of each step in the sequencer is determined by the “Division” control (from, 1/4 to 1/32 of a bar).
    • Step Randomization: Key switches allow for randomization of the step on/off switches for individual or all layers, creating dynamic variations.
    • Stutter/Freeze Effects: Dedicated key switches and controls allow for stuttering or freezing effects on random or specific steps.
  • Mode and Pitch Control: Similar to XY Atmos, many loops (excluding rhythmic ones) come with major and minor content, triggered by playing velocity.
  • Pitch Lock: Layers can be set to ignore incoming key presses, allowing their pitch to remain constant while other layers change with played notes.
  • Slice Editing: Users can randomize and edit the order of slices within each loop, creating new rhythmic patterns.
  • Time Signature Manipulation: The “Beatbase” control allows for changing the denominator of the time signature, enabling unusual rhythms (e.g., 7/4, 7/8).
  • Scenes which store the sequencer settings, allowing for quick transitions between different loop arrangements via key switches.

Across all three types, common features include the XY pad for crossfading, individual volume, sound selection, mute/solo buttons, waveform display, and per-layer controls for pan, pitch, attack, release, low-pass/high-pass filters, sample start, “dirt” (saturation/compression/distortion), delay, and convolution reverb with over 150 impulse responses.

Master controls for portamento and randomization are also universally present. All XY libraries also offer a separate output option for each of the four layers, allowing for individual processing in a DAW.
