Degradation Engine is a fully featured synth, with all of the controls you’d expect: two oscillators, a filter, an ADSR, effects – but it’s the oscillators that set it apart from any other instrument of its kind.
Each oscillator can crossfade its waveshape between sawtooth and square waves, but they also let you bring “loss” into the wave’s signal by crossfading the raw analogue wave with a tape-degraded version.
This works in combination with the waveshape control, so you can take any waveshape and damage it however much you’d like.
Furthermore, you can also change the character of the tape degradation between a frail, toppy full-speed sampling and a warmer, more mellow half-speed sampling – or, of course, anywhere in between.
With this range of possibilities in just a single oscillator, the depth of texture that can be drawn from the entire synth is difficult to overstate.
Please note: FULL retail version of Kontakt 7.6.1 or later is required. NOT for Kontakt Player.

At this point, almost everyone knows that analogue synthesisers are simply magic.
A growing number of people are also discovering another analogue wonder: the evocative nature of cassettes, which by their very presence can somehow transform any sound into a distant memory.
Degradation Engine takes the vibrant heart of an analogue synth, then lets you exploit it through tape’s unique power of loss.
It samples not just raw analogue waveforms, but also these waveforms through various stages of cassette tape degradation.
With a couple of controls, you can travel from rich, neon vibrance to weathered, lossy fragility – while opening a fractured, textured world in between.
The sound design possibilities are endless.
